The Beach Way

Happy Easter

Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone!
My family and I have had an amazing day. Living at the beach has allowed us to enjoy holidays on a new level. We attended a sunrise service on the beach with our toes in the sand. Oh, and what beautiful imagery nature provided for us today; Sun rising, pelicans flying over the water, and waves crashing to shore . You couldn’t help but have a smile on your face.

Galveston has definitely spoiled me. I’m not sure I will ever be able to go back from doing things the “beach way”. Life is laid back, relaxed, and doesn’t start exactly on time here. It’s kind of like the scenery mesmerizes you and you don’t have a choice. Even if you were to get in a hurry it wouldn’t matter as no-one else is. You’d be all alone on that one!

Our life wasn’t always this “relaxed”. We were a military family for many years. Both my husband and myself were active duty military (and you might as well include the kids with everything they had to do) with very strict schedules. We lived on a military post where everyone had strict schedules and moved with such precision. “Laid back” just didn’t fit in this place. Everyone had a million things to get done, a million places to go and all before 6:30 a.m.

It was an easy choice for me when the time came for me to be released from active duty. I wanted to give my kids a break and I definitely needed one too. Living at the beach with its leisurely atmosphere has provided that break for us and showed us a new way of life where we can notice the little details of day to day living. It was hard at first as our minds literally rebelled at the idea of sleeping past 5 a.m., but we have grown accustomed to it and now realize we can accomplish just as much if not more if we sleep in until 7. My kids are especially thankful for that and it looks like we are going to be doing things the “beach way” for quite a while.

Thankful in Galveston.

Playas Sirena

Playas sirena is spanish for mermaid beaches. English and Spanish are spoken in our home regularly. I wanted to incorporate this into my blog while also staying true to myself.

My dream finally came true in 2010 when we closed on our very first house, a Beach House! I have wanted a beach house since I was a little girl and now I have one. Hence the name ,Mermaid Beaches (doesn’t hurt that I love all things mermaid).

Its kind of like those dreams you have in life for your future where everything is all planned out; great job, marriage, house, family, dog. Well, in my life those things aren’t exactly going in that order. I have the marriage, house and family but 2 cats replaced the dog and I’m still working on the great job. (the house was a biggie and makes up for a lot!)

Also, does it matter that I really like mermaids but don’t have any? I guess my blog can be my first real “mermaid” item.

P.S. My husband is an artist and can draw mermaids(or anything for that matter) like there is no tomorrow and I still don’t have my mermaid. Go figure………

Past, Present, and Future……….

My beautiful daughter

My beautiful daughter

She is magnificent. Has been since the beginning. Her first little grunt, that crinkle of her nose; my heart melted in an instant. I have watched her use the tiniest movements of a baby’s kick to running the 1600m race as part of the track team. I held the littlest baby compared once to a doll and now gaze upon the young lady taller than myself.

All innocence from the beginning. Ready to conquer the world. She has me trembling with what she has accomplished and what is yet to come. As my dear daughter enters high school and the next stage of her life I hope I can keep up with as much charm as has been shown by her.

I know that one day she may leave me and I am working towards being able to accept it gracefully for I know she will return. She will make her mark on the world this daughter of mine and all my support, hope and love will be here for her.  There is magic in the air with this one!

P.S. Fair warning to everyone.. Be prepared for a world takeover.  Kara has embraced life and everything it has to offer.  She will not take no for an answer and she will get what she wants!

Aliens at the Beach

Waiting for the Parade to Start

Waiting for the Parade to Start

Galveston Texas is full of all kinds of adventure but some things definitely surprise me and when I say that Galveston is for everyone I MEAN it!

Aliens have been spotted in Galveston.  Yes , Aliens.  And what does one do when you come across an alien?  Well, you take them to Mardi-Gras of course!  Oh, that’s right.  Galveston is also home to Mardi-Gras.  There are parties and parades for all ages and all types (aliens).  It never ceases to amaze me that this little city offers so much.  I am never bored here and the people are some of the friendliest.

Welcome Aliens!

Baroque Pearls

So my pearl necklace arrived yesterday and oh is it gorgeous.  I’m in love!  Can’t really say the same about my husband.  He wanted to know how much it cost.  I replied “that’s not important, I mean I live at the beach how could I not have pearls”???  It’s obvious to me and I just don’t get how he doesn’t see that.  I mean really?  Come on!

Oh, and before it got too out of hand I innocently asked how much his new PlayStation game cost.  Enough said.  Haven’t heard another word about my necklace.  Victory is mine!

P.S  For those of you out there that might like to know I bought it from Ross-Simons and it was actually a great price!
